qBittorrent Comment Links: What 5.2.4 Fixes for Magnet Users

Fix unclickable links in qBittorrent’s Add Torrent comments, and understand why magnet downloads may not include the original torrent comment.

If a link appears in qBittorrent’s desktop Add Torrent comment field but clicking does nothing, version 5.2.4 includes a fix for that behavior. Released September 28, 2026, it lists “Enable links in add torrent comments” in its official changelog.

A missing comment after adding a magnet is a different problem. The fix enables interaction with links already displayed; it does not make magnet links retrieve the original torrent’s comment.

What the comment-link fix changes

The change enables both mouse and keyboard activation of links in the desktop Add Torrent dialog, while preserving text selection. The merged pull request describes that behavior, and its code diff changes only the desktop dialog’s link-interaction flags.

The original bug report concerned qBittorrent 5.1.4 on Windows. Its author reported that links looked like links but did not open when clicked during torrent addition. They also clarified that comment links for existing torrents in the General tab remained clickable. That report describes the affected behavior—not a failure of all links throughout qBittorrent.

For a visible but unresponsive comment link:

  1. Check your qBittorrent version. If it predates 5.2.4, update to a maintained release that includes the fix.
  2. Try a trusted comment link again in the desktop Add Torrent dialog. Mouse and keyboard activation are both covered by the change.
  3. Use text selection as a workaround. If the comment displays the full web address, copy and inspect it before pasting it into your browser. A descriptive link label alone is not an address.
  4. If the link still will not open, check external link handling. Try opening a known, trusted web link from another desktop application. If that also fails, check your operating system’s default browser and HTTP/HTTPS handlers. Pasting an address directly into a browser bypasses that handoff, so success there does not rule out a handler problem.

This is not a WebUI comment-link fix. Version 5.2.4 separately introduced a shared WebUI dialog for adding multiple torrents, as shown in the release notes. For that workflow, see adding multiple magnet links in qBittorrent WebUI.

Why a magnet may have no comment links

A magnet URI identifies a torrent; it is not a copy of the complete .torrent file. The standard peer metadata extension, BEP 9, transfers only the info dictionary. Its documented magnet parameters include the content identifier (xt), optional display name (dn), trackers (tr) and peer addresses (x.pe).

The conventional torrent comment sits outside that info dictionary: libtorrent’s parser reads comment from the top-level torrent-file dictionary. Consequently, ordinary BEP 9 metadata retrieval does not deliver that original comment—even when the file list loads successfully.

While metadata is still missing, qBittorrent 5.2.4 displays “Not Available” for the comment in its Add Torrent dialog implementation. Updating link activation cannot supply information that was never received.

If you need the publisher’s comment, obtain the original .torrent file from the legitimate publisher, provided it includes one. For the broader distinction, see how a magnet hash finds the file.

Treat comment links as untrusted addresses

A clickable comment is not an endorsement by qBittorrent. Inspect the destination, prefer the publisher’s known website, and do not install software or enter credentials merely because a torrent comment asks you to. Use torrents and magnets only for content you have the right to download and share.
